Disclaimers: The healthcare provider shall exercise professional judgement and careful interpretation of the test results and provided guidelines from local health regulatory bodies and the IDSA and the EAU in determining their advice to the patient and in the dose selection of drugs. This medical device is registered for use in Acumen Diagnostics Pte Ltd under the Special Access Route following GN-27.

PCR can identify specific types of bacteria or fungi that might not grow well in standard urine cultures, providing more detailed information about the infection for more accurate diagnoses. PCR is highly sensitive and may detect bacteria dead or alive and that are present in low numbers, which might not be observed in microbiology tests. Detection of multiple pathogens in PCR suggests polybacterial infection. Please consider the possibility of sample contamination, especially if organisms typically considered contaminants are detected.

Knowledge of the patient's clinical history, such as recent hospitalizations, antibiotic use, or recurrent infections, can influence the interpretation of PCR results. If a patient presents with symptoms consistent with a UTI and the PCR detects pathogens, this may confirm the diagnosis, even if the organisms are not cultured.

Please refer to guidelines from infectious disease societies, which may provide recommendations for interpreting PCR results in the context of UTIs. If necessary, repeat testing or additional diagnostic methods may be used to confirm the PCR findings.
